The Teams Approach

Ashfield Boys High School has developed an innovative programme which is designed to improve the educational performance of our students.  The project involves groups of teachers working collaboratively with groups of students.  With Year 7 students the project primarily ensures a positive and successful transition to High School.  With Year 8 students the project builds on the personalised link between students and their Team teachers to focus on improved learning outcomes.

How does it work?

Each Year 7 and 8 class has a core team of teachers who collectively plan and implement strategies for the development of students’ academic skills across Key Learning Areas.

  • Teachers think in a HOLISTIC way about students’ progress and development and they promote a variety of strategies to enhance all skills and abilities.

  • The Team Teachers meet regularly to discuss, monitor and assess students’ academic and social development.

  • They plan integrated lessons as well as individual programs for students in need.

  • They plan integrated lessons as well as individual programs for students with specialist teachers – (ESL, GAT, Learning Skills Teacher, Technology Teacher).

  • They maintain close links with parents through regular meetings, discussions and newsletters.
